# How to Fundraise for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Giving

## Quick answer

Pick one simple event for October, such as a pink afternoon tea, a wear-pink day at work or school, a sponsored walk or a bake sale. Set a target people can picture, like £25 for one screening, share a donate link, and pay in what you raise. Start planning in September so posters and sponsors are ready.

## How do I set a fundraising target?

Targets that people can picture work best. Every £25 can fund one complete screening, so £250 funds 10 and £500 funds 20. Bigger totals can fund diagnosis and treatment access too: £75 can fund a biopsy and diagnostic work-up, and £500 surgical access support for one patient. These are illustrative programme costs; donations are pooled.

## How do I plan a fundraiser in four weeks?

- Week 1: choose the event, date and venue, and set your target.
- Week 2: tell friends, family and colleagues, and share the donate link.
- Week 3: make posters, line up helpers and check the rules for food, raffles and venues.
- Week 4: hold the event, thank everyone and post your total.

## How do I keep my fundraiser safe and legal?

Collectors in the street or door to door should hold a licence from the local authority, or from the Metropolitan Police in Greater London, so collect sponsorship from people you know or online instead if you can. Check the rules before running a raffle or selling alcohol, and label ingredients and allergens on food.

## How do I pay in what I raise?

Pay in online through our donate page, adding a note about your event if you like. For cash, cheques or a bank transfer, email info@worldaidnetwork.org and we will explain how to pay in through World Aid Network. We are not yet listed on platforms such as JustGiving because Charity Commission registration is in progress, and Gift Aid is not claimed at present.

Will my employer match what I raise? Ask your HR team. Some employers match staff fundraising; some only match gifts to charities on the official register, so check their policy first.

Does my fundraising pay for cancer research? No. Breast Cancer Charity funds breast awareness, screening, diagnosis and treatment access in underserved communities. If you want to fund laboratory research, choose a research charity.
