In high-income countries, breast awareness is on the radio, in GP surgeries and at work. In many underserved communities, most women have never been told that a lump should be checked, that a change in skin texture matters, or that treatment exists. That is not a character flaw. It is a system that never paid for the conversation.

## What is the Breast Cancer Education Appeal?

It funds trained community health educators who run structured awareness sessions in villages, community centres and places of worship. Sessions cover warning signs, breast self-examination, and where to go with a concern — in local languages, from trusted local voices. It is outreach, not a university course and not a helpline.

Evidence from screening and awareness programmes is consistent on the directional point: informed women are more likely to present when they notice a change, and to do so sooner. We will not over-claim a percentage for our own sessions until we have partner data. Honesty is the unique position. Inflated “knowledge scores” are not.

## What does a community awareness session teach?

A session teaches what changes to notice, how to look and feel the breasts, that most changes are not cancer, and that a check is still worth doing. It names a local referral route. It does not diagnose. It does not replace a clinician. It is the missing public-health layer.

Materials are illustrated where literacy is mixed. Educators are women from the same community where possible, because a stranger with a poster is easier to ignore than a neighbour who will be at market tomorrow.

## Who delivers the education?

Local health educators and community health workers, trained for this programme and working in languages women already speak. We do not fly UK volunteers in to lecture. Partners hire and supervise locally. Your donation pays for that time, training and materials.

That is slower to photograph than a branded van, and more likely to be trusted. We would rather be trusted than photogenic.

Education is the conversation. Screening is the exam. £25 is the published screening unit cost; education sessions are funded from the same treatment-access programme, not from a separate invented micro-price. Choose this page if knowledge is the gift you came to give.

## What will my donation provide?

Donations fund educator time, session costs and materials. Larger gifts follow the published screening and treatment ladder: Illustrative programme costs: £25 for screening, £75 for a biopsy and diagnostic work-up, £150 for a month of hormone therapy support and £500 for surgical access support. Actual costs and services vary; donations are pooled according to need. We do not print a fake attendance counter.
