## How can I fund a free breast cancer screening?

You fund a free breast cancer screening by donating £25 — one complete exam, ultrasound and health education for a woman who has never been examined. This campaign is not an NHS mammogram booking service and not laboratory research. Give at breastcancer-charity.org/donate/. Add a note to mark the gift.

Clinical breast exam, ultrasound scan and health education. That is the productised gift. Larger amounts follow the same published ladder: £75 biopsy and full diagnostic work-up; £150 one month of hormone therapy; £500 surgical access support.

## What is the Free Breast Cancer Screening Campaign?

It is a structured programme to deliver free clinical breast examinations, ultrasound, and mammography where machines exist, plus health education, in communities without a national invitation system. The first phase aims to fund 500 complete screenings. That is a target. We will not fake a “screened today” meter.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. Survival tracks access. UK five-year survival is almost 90% because screening and treatment exist. Where they do not, published estimates fall toward around 40%. This campaign is the exam, not the essay. ## What does a £25 screening include?

£25 is our published unit cost for one complete screening pathway: a clinical breast exam, ultrasound, and health education. Mammography is used where partners have equipment. It is not a UK clinic fee and not a promise of a named patient photograph.

What happens if something is found? The same programme pool funds the next steps — biopsy at £75, hormone therapy support, surgical access — so the screening is not a dead end. Details stay on [your impact](https://breastcancer-charity.org/your-impact/).

We desk-assess clinical copy against NHS and WHO. We are not your radiologist. A UK symptom still belongs with a GP, not with this campaign.

## Why don’t these women have NHS-style mammograms?

NHS England invites eligible women aged 50 up to their 71st birthday every three years. Most countries this campaign reaches have no equivalent national programme, too few machines, and too high an out-of-pocket cost. Free screening here means an exam she will not be billed for, delivered locally.

NHS coverage and uptake figures for 2024/25 are on our screening guide — 1.94 million women screened in that programme year, 19,291 cancers found. That is the UK machine. This appeal is the absence of that machine.

## How can I donate to the free breast cancer screening campaign?

Monthly gifts are how a mobile clinic stays on a rota. A one-off £25 is still one complete pathway. If you are fundraising as a group, collect and give here rather than posting supplies.

## How is this different from the education appeal?

This campaign pays for the exam. The education appeal pays for the session that teaches warning signs and self-examination before a clinic day exists. Many donors fund both. Neither is laboratory research. Neither is a UK helpline.

## Does this book an NHS mammogram in the UK?

No. We do not book NHS or private UK appointments and we do not pay UK clinic invoices. Eligible women should wait for their invitation or speak to a GP. Symptomatic changes should not wait for screening — see a GP. Helplines: Breast Cancer Support.

Wrong-door traffic is common. People search “free breast screening” meaning “I cannot afford a private scan.” NHS screening is already free if you are invited. Private prices are a different market. Overseas access is our lane.

## What will my donation provide?

Typical gifts: £25 funds one complete screening; £75 covers a biopsy and diagnostic work-up; £150 provides one month of hormone therapy; £500 supports surgical access for one patient. Please give what you can. The campaign target of 500 screenings is a planning figure, not a claim of screenings already delivered.
